About Sara the Artist
I could tell you about my 22 years as a graphic designer, or my time at OCADU studying Environmental Design, or maybe my years at the Claude Watson School for the Arts. Perhaps it’s fun to know that I started painting again at age 47 and by 50 I had transformed my career into becoming a full time artist and alter my life’s course. But here’s all that matters...
Art is good for my soul. I need it. I need to paint. I have to create.
I enjoy the solitude, the release, the happiness and the renewal of energy that it brings me. I need the beautiful colours, the textures and the satisfaction of creating something out of nothing. The finished piece is all of this experience brought to life.
My goal is to uplift viewers by giving them a piece of this experience. We all just want to feel good, even just for a moment.
MORE ABOUT SARA
Sara Purves is a graphic designer and artist from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She was a fine art major at the Claude Watson School of the Arts and later graduated from Environmental Design program at the Ontario College of Art. Sara also has several certificates in social media including a Certificate in Advanced Social Media Strategy from the S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Sara has been a self-employed graphic designer since 1999 and works only for companies who do something positive for society. She named her company Rubine Red Inc. which is a nod to her favourite Pantone colour.
In 2018, after about 20 years of working as a designer, Sara picked up the paintbrush again. With her discipline and strong business/marketing skills, Sara has created and sold hundreds of works or art now in homes across the country.
Her beautiful art as well as her honest, motivational, and humorous posts on Instagram have amassed her a large dedicated social following. Her customers regularly describe her work as making them feel good. Sara’s use of bright vivid colours invites warmth and happiness to the viewer. Her abstract work is youthful and contemporary. A beautiful addition to modern interiors and loved by designers and decorators.
Sara's approachable style aims to take the intimidation out of purchasing fine art. She always ensures that she makes art at all price points so that original art can be affordable to everyone. She primarily sells directly to customers both online and in-person at most of the major art shows in Toronto. From July 2021 to November 2022, she even ran her own pop-up art gallery in mid-town Toronto.
“My goal is to have my colourful, happy art uplift as many people as possible. With so much negativity going on in the world, I think we should all try to make a positive contribution to society... maybe this is my way. I put love into every single piece of art. I truly believe people receive it.”
Sara has been featured in Uppercase, Chatelaine, Hello and Flare magazines. She regularly participates in local art exhibitions and fairs such as The Artist Project, Toronto Outdoor Art Fair and the One of a Kind Show and the Rosedale Art Fair.
